3D Class Week 16 Creating An Environment Part 04 (Vegetation)

For our final 3D assignment of the first semester, we were to create foliage for our environments. I had done some foliage before on my own, but always struggled. While My results from this week are still far from perfect, I'm quite please with how it all ended up. My environment, being a dry area has little vegetation. I took inspiration from the acacia trees of the Serengeti and the dry grass that surrounds the trees for my level. All of the plant life (or lack thereof) has a wind effect blowing through it. I also went back to my sand area and added the skeleton of a large creature. I also added loose, scattered bricks in the sand by the road. Finally, to fill out my landscape, I created a larger terrain for the land in the distance and used World Machine to create mountains to break up the horizon. In total this assignment took me about 22 hours.

  1. Great first pass on trees and grass. Might lower the value of the grass a little. Make the leave structure on the tress a little more full. Feels like the final video that you need to lower your overall ambient light (sky light). Really nice project!
